Die Engländer nennen ihn seitdem 'The Visigoth'. Ein Vertrag mit dem britischen Klub kam allerdings nie zustande.

"[...]and even I consider myself a pretty nostalgic person. Not only as a human being, but more so as a soccer player. You see, I am not benefitting a certain game system. I never have. Not in Frankfurt, where I used to play...well, a little bit too long; and not now. [...]But that does not change the nature of a players mind. A true players mind, which is unpatience. Unpatience is the key. Without it, nothing would happen in any sport anywhere. Yes, unpatience and the lack of time, of course. But every coach will tell you otherwise. That patience is the most important part of playing. Bullshit, if you ask me. It does not matter how intelligent you are, all you need to know is that time is running out. It runs out on you. We have to know that. It's what seperates us from animals. Mickey Maus and Goofy will never be able to play professional sport. Only humans can compete.
[...] Earlier you asked me, if the clubs in Germany may have a problem with too many foreign players. I hear that a lot these days, in fact I heard it since I started playing for money. Let me tell you something a lot of people have forgotten. The country me and most of my leaguemates, can I say leaguemates, were born was called D-West. Not Germany, but West-Germany. That is where we're from. The country that taught me to run and shoot the ball no longer exists. But still, it is our origin.[...] I consider myself a west-german for what it's worth. So that would make even me a foreign player in the Bundesliga. What are we talking about then? The sun goes up and down. The west is still there. I am not a simple german by birth. I don't want to be."
